Greetings Friends,
It's that time again; the beginning of a new calendar year which for many folks is a time for introspection, fresh starts, and goal setting. While we're all about setting goals here at TerraLuna, we're not as keen on the concept of the New Year's Resolution.
While it might seem odd for a Pilates studio to not be on the Resolution bandwagon, we think it makes perfect sense.
While it's certainly fun to dream about the things that "future you" is going to do in the form of making New Year's Resolutions, we challenge you to ask yourself if your resolution is an attainable goal or, in the words of Kara Lowentheil, a "perfectionist fantasy"?
Are you cognizant of the thoughts motivating your resolution?
For example, if you are New Year's Resolved to "lose weight" are you motivated by the desire to walk around a theme park pain-free next summer or are you motivated by body image issues or a sense of low self-worth? Do you have a manageable goal or are you chasing a perfectionist fantasy of "future you"?
We at TerraLuna believe that you cannot criticize yourself into a version of yourself that you love.
Our mission is to educate and empower you as you create your own personal, sustainable definition of wellness. We are here to encourage you to set goals and plan steps towards achieving them and in our next blog post we will be offering thoughts on manageable goal setting that originates from a place of self-love.
This blog was inspired by and adapted from Kara Lowentheil J.D. and Master Certified Coach's "UnF*ck Your Brain" podcast episode #218 dated 12-30-2021.
I wish for you peace in each day and joy in your body.
Blessings,
Lynelle
