Guest Spotlight: Meet Tegan

Tegan Nelson has been a Guest at TerraLuna since March, 2023 and we'd like to get to know her a bit better.

What brought you to Pilates and how long you've been practicing?

I had heard of Pilates a few years ago, but any studio I looked into was too expensive for me at that point in my life. When my Fiance and I moved to Hamilton, one of our first weekends we walked around downtown and I saw the sign for the TerraLuna studio! I Googled the studio when I got home and it piqued my interest! It took me a few months to get out of my comfort zone to sign up for my first beginner class, but once I did I was absolutely hooked.

Do you have a goal you'd like to share that Pilates helped you/is helping you obtain?

A goal I have from Pilates is better core engagement. I noticed in my other workouts that I really struggled engaging my core. Since practicing Pilates regularly, I have noticed how having a stronger core has helped in my cycling practice and even my posture!

What class(es) have you/do you take? Do you have a favorite class?

I love the Athletic Reformer classes! If I am not in Athletic Reformer, you can find me in a Reformer class.

What is an activity which was difficult for you in the beginning but is now easier?

Planks were really challenging! Not only are planks on a solid surface difficult, but planks when you are on a moving platform sounded terrifying! I now look forward to our plank sections and moving from one plank, into a pike, into a bear (aka jackrabbit) plank!

Tell us about props! Favorite and least favorite.

My favorite (but also the hardest prop for me to use) is the half spikey ball. Any time I use it, it is like straight core engagement and makes me focus on my balance abilities! My least favorite is the Pilates ring - any time I have to incorporate that into a workout I know I am about to burn!

If you had a "Signature Activity" what would it be?

I believe my signature activity would be C-Curve. I feel that every time I do C-Curve, I continue to be challenged, but also get better at it!

How do you define "wellness"?

To me, wellness means doing things that make me feel good for my mind, body, and spirit.

Would you share a little-known fact about yourself?

I am not originally from the area! I grew up in Newport, Rhode Island and called New York City, Boston, Ecuador, San Antonio, and Omaha home before settling in Hamilton August 2022! I also really love to bake - so if you have a sweet tooth let me know, I love any excuse to bake!

Finally, what is one food/drink you cannot live without?

This is the hardest question of them all. But if I had to pick one...I really cannot live without a Margarita!!

Thank you Tegan, for sharing a bit about yourself and your Pilates journey!
