Guest Spotlight: Meet Sarah

Sarah Myers has been a Guest at TerraLuna since September, 2022 and we'd like to get to know her a bit better.

What brought you to Pilates and how long you've been practicing?

I have Nail Patella Syndrome, which is an extremely rare connective tissue disorder that has gotten worse with age. 2 years ago my PT recommended that I find non-weight bearing exercises to help strengthen my core and muscle tone to help with the daily pain I was experiencing...this is when I hit up Google and found TerraLuna! I've been with TerraLuna and doing Reformer Pilates ever since! My first individual class with Lynelle had me convinced this is something I COULD do and wouldn't cause more harm to my body than good. I've been hooked since that day and look forward to my classes every week! I am thankful for meeting Nancy and all of my Piladies. Meeting this group of badass women has changed my life!

Do you have a goal you'd like to share that Pilates helped you/is helping you obtain?

My main goal is to help build muscle in a non-weight bearing way and to strengthen my core. Pilates has helped me do that and my body retaliates when I'm not able to make it to class.

What class(es) have you/do you take? Do you have a favorite class?

I started out in the Reformer class but quickly moved up to the Athletic Reformer class, which has become my favorite. I enjoy the StretchLates class for when I'm feeling extra tight, and I recently took a Turn & Burn class which was extremely challenging. I'm looking forward to overcoming a recent injury so I can take the Turn & Burn class again.

What is an activity which was difficult for you in the beginning but is now easier?

ALL OF IT (haha). I had never worked out a day in my life when I joined TerraLuna at 42, so everything was challenging. If I had to name one move, it would be C-curve. I had a really hard time holding myself up for long periods of time when I started. Now, I use less spring weight to strengthen my core and am able to maintain the pose, sometimes while still holding a conversation! (LOL)

Tell us about props! Favorite and least favorite.

My 2 favorite props are the small ball to place under my tailbone and lengthen my spine, and the ring of fire! It's a love/hate relationship with the ring of fire! I don't have a least favorite prop

If you had a "Signature Activity" what would it be?

Short and long spine. I love the stretch it gives my back!

How do you define "wellness"?

Wellness is whatever you define it to be. It's about treating your body with love and respect. It's changing "I can't" to "I'll try" and maybe even "I can"!

Would you share a little-known fact about yourself?

Geez. I'm pretty much an open book (as those who've been in class with me know)! My favorite leisure activity is boating. I've been boating my whole life and water skiing since I was 6! We just bought a condo at Norris Lake this summer, so I've been spending much needed family time down there with my husband of 18 years (Chad) and son (Lucas, who is 10). Passing on my love for water sports to my son is very rewarding and so much fun to watch!

Finally, what is one food/drink you cannot live without?

Wine...definitely wine-🙂! I also cannot live without all different kinds of seafood (rare or cooked)!

Thank you Sarah, for sharing a bit about yourself and your Pilates journey!
