Lisa Stengel has been a Guest at TerraLuna since January, 2023 and we'd like to get to know her a bit better.
What brought you to Pilates and how long you've been practicing?
I first took Pilates many years ago but lapsed when I moved cities. I never forgot about that experience, though, and often thought, "I should try Pilates again." When I saw Lynelle's TerraLuna sign hanging outside the studio, it was time to act on the thought! I just celebrated one year with TerraLuna and am loving my renewed practice.
Do you have a goal you'd like to share that Pilates helped you/is helping you obtain?
When I talk about finding balance, I mean actual, physical balance. I'm working toward greater stability and coordination...one Scooter lunge at a time.
What class(es) have you/do you take? Do you have a favorite class?
I just added Athletic Reformer to my usual line-up of Reformer and StretchLates. It's a good challenge, both physically and mentally, as the movements build up in complexity. But my favorite class is StretchLates, which I believe should be renamed Stretch-Ahhhhh-tes. I feel like every muscle has exhaled after this class.
What is an activity which was difficult for you in the beginning but is now easier?
Planks!
Tell us about props! Favorite and least favorite.
My favorite prop is the Magic Ring because it keeps me honest with my form. On the other end is the squishy ball and the way it slips when I'm not honest with my form. :-)
If you had a "Signature Activity" what would it be?
I could hang out in the piriformis stretch all day.
How do you define "wellness"?
Wellness is feeling grounded in times of joy, crisis, and random Tuesdays. It's building trust in yourself to ride the waves as they come.
Would you share a little-known fact about yourself?
I am obsessed with Name That Tune pub trivia.
Finally, what is one food/drink you cannot live without?
Does any and all Thai food count as one?
Thank you Lisa, for sharing a bit about yourself and your Pilates journey!
