Diane Harnden has been a Guest at TerraLuna since August, 2023 and we'd like to get to know her a bit better.
What brought you to Pilates and how long you've been practicing?
I have been doing Pilates on and off for years. I actually started with Mat Pilates at the Mercy Healthplex before trying Reformer. After moving to our forever home, I found a local Reformer studio (that has since gone out of business) where I met the fabulous Lynelle. When I found out Lynelle had started her own business, I was quick to join in the fun as soon as I retired in 2023.
Do you have a goal you'd like to share that Pilates helped you/is helping you obtain?
I want to continue to get stronger as I get older. I want to minimize my fall risk.
What class(es) have you/do you take? Do you have a favorite class?
I love regular Reformer classes and they are currently meeting my needs. I want to try some of the new classes.
What is an activity which was difficult for you in the beginning but is now easier?
I have had trouble with my left shoulder for years. From the beginning of this journey, I have used a lesser spring weight for arm work. Just recently, I have been able to use 2 Red Springs!!!
Tell us about props! Favorite and least favorite.
I love the magic ring. It really helps with the stretching. My least favorite is probably the dowel rod because we use it with shoulder work and I find it frustrating that my shoulders don't always want to cooperate.
If you had a "Signature Activity" what would it be?
I love the piriformis stretch while in leg straps and the long spine. It was such an accomplishment when I could complete long spine.
How do you define "wellness"?
Wellness is a balance of physical and mental self-care. Wellness is also acceptance of where someone is in life. Wellness is also giving yourself grace.
Would you share a little-known fact about yourself?
I was an Air Force brat and was born in Waco, Texas and have lived in California, New York, Ohio (the 1st time) Washington, DC and Dallas, Texas before settling in Southwest Ohio.
Finally, what is one food/drink you cannot live without?
I love my pasta and pizza.
Thank you Diane, for sharing a bit about yourself and your Pilates journey!
